Achieved in January 2020 and currently only held by 15% of the some 2,500 breweries across the UK, The SALSA plus Beer Standard encourages excellence in the brewing and bottling industry and aids breweries in demonstrating accountability and traceability to the companies they supply.

The SALSA – which stands for safe and local supplier approval – Plus Beer audit has been developed in association with Cask Marque, an independent accreditation body, to offer small and micro-sized brewers a Standard tailored to the scale and structure of their operation and to allow approved members to approach buyers with reinforced confidence in their craft ales and beers. Audits for the SALSA plus Beer are undertaken by specially trained auditors with extensive experience of the brewing industry.

The SALSA standard was written by experienced food safety experts to reflect both the legal requirements of producers and the enhanced expectations of 'best practice' of professional food buyers. Approval certification is only granted to suppliers who are able to demonstrate to a SALSA auditor that they are able to produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard.
